Leading the Improvement Process

Read this note after reading the initial review process (click here for more details) to better understand the improvement roles which underpin the activities set out below..

Champion Role: Developing the Senior Management Agenda

The senior management team is the champion team. Their role is to establish clear goals and create a supporting environment by setting appropriage policy standards and providing recognition to reinforce the continuous improvement process. Before they can do this, management need to formally review and agree the need for change and develop a common vision of how that change will transform the business. This senior management agenda provides the leadership foundation on which a realistic and achieveable action plan to engage the organisation can be developed.

Change Team Role: Influencing the day to day action focus

The change team is made up of cross functional middle management personnel. There role is to manage the delivery route map to make continous improvement part of the daily routine. This is achieved by developing front line team capability to secure changes in working practices and problem ownership. Their process involves the translation of the senior management agenda into local actions and support for the audit coaching process used to measure individual/front line team progress (behavioral and technical) and direct support to where it is needed most.

Improvement Team Role: Securing the Learning and Development Process

Front line teams are allocated improvement priorities based on the needs of the business as defined by the Senior Management Leadership Agenda. Their progress provides a learning opportunity for all levels of the business, An opportunity to harness the learning curve of the complete organisation. The core of the process is the stepwise audit coaching process used to set and raise local standards. This provides the opportunity to set learning objectives for front line teams and direct the engagement process towards the key business priorities.
